10 Things Every Couple Should Know Before Planning a Siesta Key Beach Wedding

Siesta Key Beach Wedding

If you're dreaming of getting married on the beautiful white sands of Siesta Key, you're not alone. Every year, couples from across the country choose Sarasota's award-winning beaches for one of the most important days of their lives.

After coordinating hundreds of beach weddings, I've learned that the little details often make the biggest difference. My goal has always been to make every wedding as beautiful and stress-free as possible, and these are the tips I find myself sharing with couples again and again.

1. Skip the High Heels for your Wedding Ceremony

One of the first questions brides ask is whether they should wear heels.

My advice?

Leave them at home.

Siesta Key is famous for its incredibly soft white quartz sand. It's beautiful—but that same soft sand makes walking in heels almost impossible.

The good news is that barefoot weddings feel perfectly natural here. Even during the summer, Siesta Key's quartz sand stays surprisingly cool under your feet, making it one of the most comfortable beaches for a barefoot ceremony.

2. Don't Let Mobility Concerns Keep Someone Away

If you have a guest who uses a wheelchair or has difficulty walking, don't assume they can't enjoy your beach wedding.

Beach wheelchairs with large balloon tires can be rented locally at a very reasonable price, and many companies will even deliver them directly to your ceremony location.

Some of my favorite wedding memories include watching grandparents and family members who thought they couldn't make it onto the beach become part of the celebration.

3. Include Family in Your Ceremony

Some of the most meaningful ceremonies I've ever coordinated weren't the biggest ones.

They were the ones where family participated.

A reading by Mom.

A blessing from Grandma.

Walking down the aisle with both parents.

These simple moments often become the memories everyone talks about long after the wedding is over.

4. Honor Loved Ones Who Can't Be There

Many couples choose to reserve a chair for someone who has passed away.

It might hold:

  • A framed photograph

  • Fresh flowers

  • A favorite keepsake

  • A handwritten note

We always make sure those memorial chairs are placed in a meaningful location because those loved ones are still part of your story.

Sometimes the people we miss are the ones we think about the most on life's biggest days.

5. Know the Beach Rules

Every beach has different regulations.

For weddings on Sarasota County beaches:

  • Alcohol is permitted.

  • Fires and bonfires are not allowed.

  • Sparklers are prohibited.

If you're looking for a fun ceremony exit, we often recommend bubbles or fresh flower petals instead.

We also encourage couples to avoid artificial petals because they can remain on the beach and harm local wildlife.

Keeping our beaches beautiful helps preserve them for future couples.

6. Don't Wait Too Long to Reserve Your Date

One of the biggest misconceptions is that permits are difficult.

They're actually quite simple.

Finding an available ceremony location during peak wedding season is usually the bigger challenge.

Spring and fall weekends often book many months in advance, so planning ahead gives you the best selection.

7. Let Someone Else Handle the Details

Your wedding day should never feel like a checklist.

You shouldn't be worrying about where the chairs go or whether the music is ready.

You should be enjoying one of the happiest days of your life.

That's why having an experienced coordinator makes such a difference.

8. Don't Delegate the Wedding Rings

This is my favorite piece of advice.

Years ago, a groom forgot the wedding rings.

Rather than delay the ceremony, my husband and I quietly removed our own wedding rings and let the couple use them during the ceremony.

Our rings had already brought us more than twenty years of happiness, so sharing them for one ceremony felt like the easiest decision in the world.

The bride didn't even know until after the ceremony, and we all had a wonderful laugh together afterward.

Since then, I always tell brides one thing:

Don't delegate the rings!

(I have a husband and two boys—I love them dearly, but I know better than to trust them with remembering something that important!)

9. The Best Weddings Aren't Always the Biggest

The weddings I remember most aren't necessarily the ones with the largest guest lists or the most elaborate decorations.

They're the ones filled with genuine laughter, meaningful moments, and families celebrating together.

Sometimes a child's giggle, a parent's happy tears, or a spontaneous hug becomes the memory everyone treasures.

10. Remember What Really Matters

Years from now, you probably won't remember every decoration.

You'll remember how you felt.

You'll remember the smiles, the hugs, and the people who stood beside you.

My job has never been simply to coordinate a wedding.

It's to help create an experience that you'll look back on with happiness for the rest of your life.

💙 From Lu's Experience

People often ask me why I love what I do.

The answer is simple.

I genuinely care about my couples.

I may only know you for a short time, but I know how important your wedding day is. For many people, it's a day they've dreamed about for years, and I feel honored to be part of it.

I can't control the weather, and I can't promise that everything will happen exactly as planned. But I can promise that I'll do everything I can to make your day beautiful and as stress-free as possible.

If that means waiting thirty minutes for a Florida rain shower to pass so your wedding photos don't all include umbrellas, I'll gladly wait.

If it means answering your questions before you even book with us, I'm happy to help.

Helping couples enjoy one of the happiest days of their lives isn't just my job.

It's what I love to do.
