Siesta Key vs. Lido Beach: Which Is Better for Your Sarasota Beach Wedding?

If you're dreaming of getting married on the beautiful Gulf Coast of Florida, there's a good chance Siesta Key and Lido Beach are both on your list. They're two of our favorite Sarasota beach wedding locations, and we've helped couples celebrate beautiful ceremonies on both.

So which one should you choose?

The answer really depends on the wedding experience you're imagining. Both offer gorgeous white sand, Gulf views, incredible sunsets, and convenient Sarasota locations, but they have slightly different personalities.

After years of planning beach weddings in Sarasota, here's what we think couples should know before deciding.

Getting Married on Siesta Key

Siesta Key is probably the most recognizable beach in Sarasota, and there's a reason couples travel from all over the country to get married here.

The beautiful white quartz sand is incredibly soft, the Gulf provides a gorgeous backdrop, and sunset ceremonies can be breathtaking.

One thing couples are often surprised to discover is how comfortable the sand feels under their feet. Siesta Key's quartz sand doesn't become scorching hot like many people expect Florida sand to be.

That's why we tell our brides: forget the heels.

Walking through soft beach sand in heels isn't practical anyway, and Siesta Key is practically made for a barefoot wedding.

Siesta Key is especially wonderful for couples who want:

The tradeoff is popularity. Siesta Key can become busy, particularly during popular travel periods.

That doesn't mean you can't have an intimate ceremony. Choosing the right wedding location, date, and ceremony time can make a big difference — and that's something we help our couples navigate.

Getting Married on Lido Beach

Lido Beach sometimes gets overlooked by destination couples who have heard more about Siesta Key.

But we love Lido.

You still get gorgeous white sand, beautiful Gulf views, and incredible Sarasota sunsets, but Lido Beach is generally less crowded than Siesta Key.

For couples who want a quieter and more relaxed atmosphere, that can make Lido an excellent choice.

There's another big advantage: location.

The areas where Sarasota County permits weddings on Lido Beach are close to St. Armands Circle. After the ceremony, couples and their guests have plenty of nearby options for restaurants, shopping, drinks, and continuing the celebration.

There's also plenty of parking close to the wedding areas, which is something your guests may appreciate more than you realize!

Lido Beach is particularly good for couples looking for:

• A more intimate atmosphere

• Convenient parking

• Restaurants and entertainment nearby

• Easy access to St. Armands Circle

Which Beach Has the Better Sunset?

We're calling this one a tie.

Both Siesta Key and Lido Beach face the Gulf of Mexico and can provide absolutely beautiful sunset backdrops.

Sunset is one of our favorite times for Sarasota beach ceremonies, not only because of the view but also because the light can be beautiful for wedding photography.

And there's something pretty special about saying your vows while the sun begins disappearing over the Gulf.

Which Beach Is Better for a Small Wedding or Elopement?

Both.

We've planned everything from intimate ceremonies with just a couple to celebrations surrounded by family and friends.

For couples particularly concerned about crowds, though, Lido Beach may have the advantage because it tends to be quieter than Siesta Key.

For couples who have always dreamed specifically about saying, "We got married on Siesta Key," then Siesta is probably worth choosing.

There really isn't a wrong answer.

What About Beach Wedding Permits?

Beach weddings generally require following local rules and permit requirements, and this is one part of destination wedding planning that couples shouldn't have to stress about.

What Is the Best Time of Year for a Sarasota Beach Wedding?

Sarasota is fortunate to have beautiful beach-wedding weather during much of the year, but some months require a little more consideration.

July and August can be extremely hot. Even evening ceremonies can feel very warm, particularly when everyone is dressed for a wedding.

April can also be tricky because of spring break. Sarasota's beaches attract many visitors, including younger spring-break crowds.

If your schedule is flexible, choosing your wedding month — and even the day of the week — strategically can give you a very different beach experience.

What If One of Our Guests Has Mobility Issues?

This is something couples sometimes worry about because walking through soft sand can be difficult for guests with significant mobility limitations.

Fortunately, beach wheelchairs with large tires are available for rent, and some companies can even deliver them to your beach location.

Having a guest with mobility challenges doesn't necessarily mean you have to give up your dream of a beach ceremony.

When couples ask me whether they should choose Siesta Key or Lido Beach, I don't think one is "better." I think they're different.

If you've dreamed about getting married on Siesta Key and want that iconic white-sand Sarasota experience, choose Siesta Key. It's beautiful.

But if you want gorgeous white sand and a Gulf sunset with a location that is usually a little quieter, I would seriously consider Lido Beach. I also love having St. Armands Circle so close because couples and their families can easily continue celebrating after the ceremony.
